Skills of an editor

There are many people who want to become editors. Most writers at some point or the other would have wanted to become editors. Some have their dreams fulfilled, while others have not. There is a lot of demand for editors in the market. There is plenty of content that is being published these days. Someone needs to look through that content and check it for originality, quality, grammar and relevance. This task falls on the shoulders of the editor. The growth of the Internet has sparked a growth in the demand for written content. Subsequently, this has sparked a demand for writers and editors. There are two qualities that an editor needs to have. He should love to acquire knowledge and he should have perfect command over language.

There are many people who are good at writing and telling a story. But their command over language is not perfect. Their work is invariably polished by someone else. But an editor has no one else to turn to for polishing his work. His knowledge of all the intricacies involved in a language needs to be impeccable. He should have a keen eye for spotting even the tiniest mistake. He should also have the habit of constantly updating himself on all the latest changes made to the rules of grammar and academic formatting. Most companies give editors a grammar test when they are hired. The candidates are appointed as editors only when they pass the test. Those who become editors find their roles very fulfilling. They also get paid well. It is for this reason that it is a smart idea for all students of literature and other related arts to brush up on their grammar and ensure that they are well qualified to don the role of an editor.

I want to be an editor and I am even taking training under a professional editor, but these skills would really help in improving myself as even I feel that I need to hold much more command over English.
